Homemade Cleaners: Recipes for the Home

Homemade Cleaners

Here are some of my favorite homemade cleaners! These all get my house sparkling clean and smelling great while using all-natural, safe ingredients. All of the following recipes can be made with just a small number of products, which is also great for budget homemaking! However, there are some necessities that will help get you started. These are my favorites:

  • Lemi Shine – this is basically citric acid and really good for all sorts of cleaning, from bathrooms to appliances
  • Baking Soda – this is the ultimate multi-purpose homemade cleaner. I use it to clean my tub, the sink, and to keep everything from the refrigerator to the carpet smelling fresh.
  • Vinegarplain old white vinegar is a must have for your natural cleaning arsenal! I use it for everything! For surface cleaning, it is better (and safer) than bleach, and it can also be used in lieu of fabric softener in the laundry.
  • Essential Oils – in my experience, Peppermint Oil and Lemon Oil are the most multi-use oils to mix with your natural cleaners.
  • Castile Soap – I’ve been using castile soap to make everything from liquid hand soap to laundry detergent for years.
  • Reusable Spray Bottles — For a long time, I would clean and refill plastic spray bottles. But the degrade over time, which is why I prefer and recommend glass.
  • Reusable Soap Pump – I have one of these in my bathroom and kitchen all the time.
