Weekly Shopping Trips: Rite Aid and Aldi

Rite Aid was my first stop this week because I wanted to snag this great deal on Kellogg’s cereal.

I spent a total of $11.10 on 6 boxes of cereal — and $0.99 for Toy Story pencils on clearance for my son’s birthday party. That comes out to $1.68 per box, but I also have $3 in +UP rewards to spend. Here’s how to snag this deal:

  • Purchase 6 boxes of cereal at RiteAid — they are 3/$7.50
  • Use this $5/5 Printable Coupon (good in Rochester & Buffalo)
  • Spend $10 out of pocket
  • Earn $3 in +UP rewards, making it like paying $1.16/box

Next I headed out to Aldi, where I stocked up on several staples we needed this week.

I was pleased to see Lifeway Kefir at Aldi again for only $2.79. I have also never bought peanut butter at Aldi before. It was only $1.69 compared to $2.49 at Wegmans for their generic brand. I checked the ingredients, and everything was exactly the same and in the same order. I also grabbed a pineapple at Aldi since they were only $1.59 each, which is the lowest price I’ve seen in this area ever.

How did you do with your shopping trips this week??

Hot Kellogg’s Deal at Rite Aid!

I just saw this awesome deal on Kellogg’s cereal — Frosted Mini-Wheats and Raisin Bran (both of which my husband insists on eating every day) at Rite Aid.

  • Buy 6 boxes of Frosted Mini-Wheats and/or Raisin Bran for $15
  • Use (1) $5/5 Kellogg’s Coupon (use zip 14609, avail. in Rochester & Buffalo only)
  • Get 2 +UP rewards of $1.50 (total=$3.00)
  • Total After +UP rewards: 6 boxes of cereal for $7, or $1.16 each. That is definitely a stock-up price for me!

Natural Remedies Rite Aid Deal: Update

I went to Rite Aid this morning to try to get my free natural cold & flu remedies. I absolutely did NOT do the deals perfectly. I’m fairly certain I could have done a little better if I didn’t have a crying almost-2 year old flailing in my arms the whole time. :) (Side Note: I gave both my kids an old wallet with a “coupon” in it to occupy them for the trip. I had a 50% success rate — it worked for the 3 1/2 year old, not for the 21 month old).

Here’s what I got: The tiny piece of paper on the right is my $8 extra +UP rewards. I meant to use it on the second transaction to make it free or near free, but I wasn’t thinking on my feet this morning (reference side note above).

Transaction #1:

Duract Cough Quickmelts – $6.00
ColdBuster Warming Syrup — $8.00
Total Out of Pocket: $14.00 ($14 worth of +UP rewards printed)

Transaction $2:

Similisan Kid Cough Relief — $3.99  minus $1/1 Coupon=$2.99
Zarbees Cough and Cold — $6.99
Total= $9.98 minus $6 in +UP rewards from transaction #1
Total Out of Pocket=$3.98

Total Amount Owen in Single Check Rebates:$9.99 (will be sent to me at the end of the month)
Net Amount Spent =$0 (after all SCRs and +UP rewards). It’s actually $7.99, but I have an $8 +UP reward to use so it evens out to $0.

Have you tried this deal at RIte Aid this week? I’d love to hear how you did!

If you’re new to Rite Aid, you’re probably wondering what a SCR is and what +UP rewards are. An SCR (single check rebate) works essentially the same way as a mail-in rebate, with the convenient option of combining every RiteAid SCR you’ve earned in a month into one rebate check.  SAVE YOUR RECEIPT if you do a deal with an SCR because you’ll need it to enter the rebate information online.
An +UP reward is simple: you purchase an item with an +UP reward, and you get a coupon on the spot for the amount of the +UP reward, good off your next purchase.  For an exhaustive explanation of how to shop at RiteAid, head over here to For The Mommas.

FREE at the Drugstores this week!

Playing “The Drugstore Game” is a great way to save money on not only health, beauty, and cleaning supplies, but also food! There are always great coupon match-ups to be had.

My strategy this week is to hit up CVS for Mach 3 Razors and an iTunes gift card (these make great gifts!) Then if I have time I’ll go to Walgreens, snag some free toothpaste and toothbrushes, and also pick up batteries and toilet paper. I’ll post my deals around later this week.

A quick primer on drugstore lingo:

  • CVS — you can earn “Extra Care Bucks” (ECBs) when you use your store loyalty card. These ECBs can be used on future transactions.
  • Rite-Aid — With Rite-Aid’s store loyalty card, you earn “+UP rewards” which are similar to ECBs at CVS.
  • Walgreens — No store loyalty card needed. You earn “Register Rewards” with certain purchases which is store credit to be used on future purchases.
CVS
Buy 1 Oral-B Advantage or Cross Action Toothbrush at $3, Get $1 ECB (Limit 2)
Use $2/1 coupon from the 7/3 P&G insert
Or buy 2 and use Buy One Get One Free coupon from the 6/5 P&G insert
As low as free after coupon and ECB
iTunes Gift Cards, Spend $25, Earn 5 ECBs Limit 1
= $20 for a $25 gift card after ECBs

Rite-Aid
