Running away from Fast Fashion | #prAnaMom

My long-standing love of prAna continues!  I already have several pieces, and I adore all of them. prAna, in partnership with The Motherhood, sent me a couple gorgeous pieces this week and I wanted to show you what I like about them.

Lately, I’ve been trying to get away from “fast fashion.”

Once I learned where fast fashion clothes come from (mostly overseas made by underage workers with little regulation), and where they go once they inevitably fall apart (in landfills), I vowed to be more mindful in my clothing purchases.

  • My first, and most-used strategy, is to shop second-hand. I am so lucky that there are several really great and well-curated consignment shops near me. Thrift stores work too! I’m willing to do the little bit of digging to find some real gems.

  • Second, I try to buy all my jewelry and accessories from local artisans.  One of my favorite pieces is made by Interstellar Love Craft. I highly recommend checking them out! You can find them in several states!

  • Most importantly, there is a short list of brands that I know are worth investing in, either because of the quality of clothing, or because they use responsible, sustainable practices and materials. prAna is at the top of my list!

prAna has a large selection of items made of organic hemp or cotton. In addition, they use sustainable manufacturing practices AND utilize many recycled materials. Plus, all the clothes from prAna are stylish  easy to wear. I lived in my Kara jeans last summer.

I’m writing this on International Women’s Day (March 8), and especially now, I think it’s really important to focus on being planet-friendly. If not us, then who? If not now, when?

My recommendation?

prAna just sent me the Cali Dress in Pink. My favorite part is that it has a shelf bra that is actually supportive AND has pre-molded cups inside it, so my nips aren’t peeking out! It’s also super-flattering and comfortable. I’m going to LIVE in this dress this summer.

No fast fashion here

I am OBSESSED with the Lizbeth Skirt. I got the “Coal” color, and it’s a perfect updated, lightweight denim-type skirt for the summer. What I love about this skirt is that I can wear it to work AND on a hike with the kids.
