Bloody Mary

I have a confession to make. Up until about a year ago, I completely refused to try Bloody Marys. If I was out for brunch, or even a morning boat cruise, I have always opted for a mimosa, or maybe coffee with hazelnut liqueur for my pre-noon adult beverage of choice.

About a year ago I happened to be at a party with a Bloody Mary Bar. I refused to make my own drink at first, but then I tried my friend’s Bloody Mary and was instantly in love with the blend of sweet and spicy and savory that hit my palate.

Ever since then I have been waiting to have some sort of brunch-type party so I could have my own Bloody Mary bar for my guests.  I’ve never been a big sports fan, and frankly, the idea of tailgating all day is my personal idea of hell, but I would absolutely plan a “homegating” party simply because I’m dying to serve a Bloody Mary bar.

Shopping at Wegmans the other day, I rounded the corner and found these Lidestri Bloody Mary Pouches on an endcap near the beer section. Looking at the pouch, I realized that Lidestri Bloody Mary Pouches are NOT a mix – oh no, they have all the delicious spices and alcohol ALREADY IN THEM!

Well, this is a (excuse the pun) game-changer! I’ll do anything to make my life easier, and since all the ingredients are already in the (recyclable!) pouch, all I need to add is some fancy fixin’s!

The pouches retailed for $9.99 at Wegmans, and they are also available at Walmart. At first I thought this was kind of expensive, but then I realized they contain the equivalent to TWO 750mL bottles of wine. That is actually a really good deal.

For my Bloody Marys, I looked in my cupboard to see what I could easily make into a topping for the rim of my glasses.

The first mixture, on the left, is smoked paprika with coarse sea salt. The briny salt gives just the right edge to the dark, sultry paprika flavor.

On the right, above, is a lemon pepper herb blend that I purchased ready-mixed.  See, I really do like to keep it as simple as possible – especially where adult bevvys are concerned!Bloody Mary

For my Bloody Mary bar, I simply put out bowls with the rim toppings in them. Be sure to include a bowl of water, too. It’s important to dip the clean glass rims in the water so that the toppings stick to the glass.

Yum! I love the tangy, spicy, savory kick of the Lidestri Bloody Mary with my fresh rim toppings. It took me a while to acquire the taste, but now I can’t get enough.Bloody Mary
