Last Monday I was treated to an early entry into Hart’s Local Grocers on Winthrop Street in Rochester. From the moment I walked in, the care and the love that everyone who works at Hart’s has for the place is evident. I cannot wait until the opening on Friday, August 15, 2014! It will be open to the public at 10 am, so if you’re local, come on out!
Hart’s has a long history in Rochester – in 1938 there were over 130 self-service stores! That local spirit is absolutely evident in the current iteration of Hart’s. Fully 20% of the products on shelves will be local. That is 10 times more than any other chain grocery store. In fact, the first three aisles when you walk in will be all local products. Here is a sneak peak:
I love how mindful every department is of sourcing local ingredients. From cheese to meat to produce, care has been taken to work with farmers and producers from New York state or as close as possible. On opening day, said Chris Nolan, the resident cheesemonger, every artisan cheese will be domestically produced and sourced.
The best part of my tour? Sampling some of the prepared foods that Hart’s will be serving in the Cafe. Yes, I know some of the pictures are blurry. I was more focused on sampling than snapping pics! And everything was AMAZING.
Hart’s which has hired Andrew Lederman as the culinary director, is focused on clean eating – simple ingredients, done perfectly. I can’t wait to come downtown for lunch in Hart’s cafe! Oh, and by the way, there will be a full beverage bar with coffee, espresso, juices, and smoothies.
Because I know you are all wondering, Hart’s does offer sales and promotions! Here are a few of the fun deals they’re bringing:
- Hart’s DOES accept manufacturer’s coupons
- Hart’s gives $0.10 for every reusable bag you bring
- Get actual rewards when you use your Hart’s loyalty card
- Monthly sales flyers with hot deals featured every month
If Hart’s Local Grocers wasn’t already cool enough, they are generously offering to give away a $50 Hart’s Gift Card AND Swag Basket to one lucky local reader!!
