Do you know what travel immunizations and the flu shot have in common?
They are both easily accessible at your local Walgreens! If this is news to you, don’t feel bad, because I didn’t know before last week either.
I was just discussing with my husband where I’m going to get my flu shot this year. He chooses not to, and that’s fine, but I always get my flu shot. Instead of making an appointment and driving 25 minutes out of my way to the doctor’s, I think I’ll get my flu shot at Walgreens this year.
Why? Because for every adult immunization that is given at Walgreens before October 14, 2013, they’ll help supply a life saving vaccine to a child in a developing country. This is the basic premise of Walgreen’s Get a Shot, Give a Shot policy, and Walgreens is partnering with the United Nations to make it happen.
This partnership will provide up to three million vaccines for life threatening diseases like measles and polio.By getting my flu vaccine at Walgreens, I’ll be giving a child a shot at playing sports!
For my family, it is important for me to keep my immunizations up to date. Two years ago I neglected to get my flu shot (since it involved a trip to the aforementioned doctor’s), and I got the worst flu I’ve ever had. It took me out of commission for weeks. And when my daughter got it and ended up hospitalized due to dehydration, I couldn’t even care for her. My husband had to shoulder it all.
No matter what you think about the pros and cons of adult immunizations, I will choose to stay up to date on getting my flu shot every year. I can’t afford to miss that much of our family’s life.
Thankfully, we have a Walgreens less than a mile from my house, conveniently located on the way to everything. I can just pop into Walgreens, no appointment needed, get my flu shot, and get on with my day! Here is the “Immunization Room” of my local Walgreens. It’s located right inside the pharmacy.
In fact, if you forget to get your flu shot or other vaccines at Walgreens, you can find lots of signs telling you where to go:
Walgreens also offers the Shingles Vaccine and travel immunizations as well as the flu shot. I always try to stay up to date on my travel immunizations just in case I need to hop on a plane. Hey, you never know, right?
What would YOU give a child a shot at??
