Now that summer is finally here, one of my family’s favorite thing to do is make homemade ice cream. There is something about homemade ice cream — even in simple vanilla — that just screams summer to me.
The refrigerated dairy aisle has nearly everything I need to make the most delicious homemade ice cream, as well as so many other summer treats! Because organic refrigerated dairy products are made with fresh, farm-produced ingredients, they’re a part of our healthy lifestyle.
My favorite ice cream recipe is so simple: I use Stonyfield Organic Milk and heavy whipping cream – both found in the refrigerated dairy aisle — along with a splash of vanilla extract and sugar. However, I’ve also put some less conventional ingredients, like rhubarb, in my Homemade Rhubarb Ice Cream recipe.
Another favorite dessert that is perfect for the 4th of July? Berry Yogurt Trifle. So good, and perfect for summer picnics.
Dairy is not just for dessert (and it’s not just milk and cheese)! I recently made Mashed Turnips with Bacon and Stonyfield Greek Yogurt. The addition of the greek yogurt (and, of course, butter!) really took the humble turnip to a totally different level.
So why is the refrigerated dairy aisle a necessary stop in every grocery trip?
1. Ingredients for every meal – from breakfast to lunch to dinner to dessert.
3. Simple, pronouncable ingredients, like Organic Milk and Heavy Cream.
4. More than just staples — there are dips, potatoes, and coffee creamer (which is a staple in my house!)
5. Ice Cream! Whether it’s soy, coconut, or organic, any kind of ice cream is good in my book.
