Since we’re in the process of selling our house, and buying a new one, there have been many days recently when we need to be out of the house – whether or not it’s convenient for me and our two kids.
Last Friday, otherwise known as the day Nemo struck, we had to leave our house for three hours in the morning. Since the weather was scary-bad, I didn’t want to drive too far and risk getting stuck, so I took my kids to the Rochester Museum and Science Center for the morning. I figured the mastodon bones and energy exhibit would occupy us all for the allotted time.

And it was a great morning! We dug for fossils, made our own energy power, and examined the life-size mastodon.

Thank goodness I brought the new Stonyfield Organic Smoothies. Mason and Emma really needed an energy boost towards the end of the trip — their energy was flagging, but due to our house inspection, we couldn’t go home! The kid-size combination of lean protein and organic fruit and vegetable purees really gave them the oomph they needed to power through.

Maybe a little too much oomph. . .

Whoops! A spill!
Ok, I totally got a dirty look from the lady running the cafe. I’m sure because we brought our own snacks and weren’t “paying customers” (never mind the $35 I’d shelled out for admission). And maybe, if we weren’t the only people in thejoint, I would have felt guilty. But I didn’t. I was really glad we had this healthier alternative to snack on instead of sugary snacks from the vending machine.
If you’re within driving distance to Rochester, I highly recommend a trip to the RMSC. My 3 year old was a little young for it, but I think kids ages 4-5 and up would just LOVE it. There really is something for all ages there. Obviously, the fossil dig was a huge draw for my kids, but the new exhibit on Race is really fascinating.
