Black Friday is a uniquely American phenomenon where, the day after we give thanks for all our blessings, we participate in ritual hunt of TVs, toys, and other prized holiday paraphernalia. I know that Black Friday shopping, braving the crowds, and scoring the deals is a tradition for some, but frankly, the idea of that many people in one place fighting over Cries-a-lot Baby Doll kind of just leaves me hating humanity for a while.
But you KNOW I want a deal. That’s why I do all my “black Friday” shopping online. Here are my best tips, tricks, and ideas to get the best deals this holiday season, without leaving your couch!
Why shop online vs. in-store?
Many electronics offered for slashed prices are not the top of the line – many are specially made with fewer features just for black friday deals.
Last year Target offered door-busters with a 10% off coupon online: making it cheaper to shop in your PJs. Plus, there are many free shipping deals to be found.
Who wouldn’t want to get all their holiday shopping done while hanging out on the couch!
Online Shopping Tips:
If you shop on Amazon at all (and you probably do), Amazon Prime is a great way to get FREE shipping all year long. It’s $79 up front, but you get free 2-day shipping and free instant videos and Kindle downloads.
Price Drop Alert — This is a free app that alerts you when items on your list fall below a certain price threshold that you have set.
Sign up for deal alerts to your favorite stores with your “junk” email account.
Go in with a list. If you find a great deal but it’s not on the list, ask yourself if you really need it.
“Like” your favorite stores’ Facebook pages – you may get access to insider deals and discounts. The 10% off Target coupon last year was released via Facebook.
Use UPS My Choice to be notified of impending shipments and keep track of your online purchases. I use this and love it! You can make sure all the important purchases will be here in time.
Use Retail Me Not for coupon codes and discounts.
Check the circulars that come out on Thanksgiving day to know what the best prices in-store are and then try to beat them online.
