Make It Yourself Monday: How to get Rid of Ants Using Peppermint Oil

When you have ants in your home, the first inclination may be to spray the bejeezus out of your foundation with toxic chemicals.

I have sucessfully rid my house of ants using the simplest of ingredients: pure peppermint oil.

It may take several applications, but it should do the trick. Here’s what to do:

On a damp rag, place about 10 drops of peppermint oil.  Wipe this mixture on the floor in every place that the ants could come in.  Alternately, you could mix up water and about 20 drops of peppermint oil in a spray bottle, and spray it directly onto the floor.

You’ll have to repeat this process twice a day for as long as a week.  But it’s non-toxic to pets or kids (unless ingested in large quantities), and gets the job done.

Don’t have any peppermint oil? My dad didn’t, and used peppermint schnapps instead. The result? All the ants were gone the next day. I can’t personally vouch for it, but it’s worth a shot. :)
